Datu Wellness releases dates for authentic Ayurveda based holistic retreats in Tuscany and new locations in South Africa & Goa

Following a successful 2024 season, Datu Wellness returns to their mediaeval Borgo near Siena, Tuscany for a series of 7-night retreats. Running from 13 March – 16 April and 24 October – 27 November 2025, delivering authentic Eastern wellbeing in the captivating countryside. Datu Wellness will also return to Goa for a summer retreat and host their first winter retreat in South Africa - details to be announced soon.
In the increasingly crowded and formulaic world of health and wellness, Datu Wellness is unique in its approach, offering curated retreats in different locations delivered by a team of over twenty doctors, practitioners, therapists and chefs caring for up to 30 guests at a time. As a result, the profound and personalised level of nurture ensures everyone sees results on their journey.
Ancient Wisdom for Modern Living
Datu Wellness offers transformative retreats that heal the fallout from modern-day Western life with ancient Eastern practices. Each retreat brings world-class practitioners, mostly trained in Asia’s most prestigious institutions, to look after the wellbeing of its global clientele in beautiful destinations around the world.
The name Datu, meaning ‘share’ in Sanskrit, embodies co-founder Constantin Bjerke’s heart-led vision. As he explains, “After experiencing the deep healing powers of Ayurveda and Yoga while recovering from injury, personal loss and divorce, I felt an overwhelming urge to share the wisdom, care and love of the wonderful practitioners I met in India. My intention is to help Westerners reinvigorate their body, calm their mind, and uplift their spirit, so they leave not only healthier and happier but with a deeper sense of compassion and connection.”
A Timeless Setting
Datu's current home base is a honey-hued 12th century hamlet restored to a country hotel, surrounded by rolling hills, vineyards and olive groves, just twenty minutes from Siena and an hour from Florence.
Between programme activities guests can unwind in the shaded garden, on a bench by a fountain or in their traditional Tuscan room, enjoying hilltop views framed by wooden shutters.
Personalised Wellness with Ayurveda
Every Datu Wellness journey starts with an Ayurvedic consultation, from which the guest’s programme is personalised. Guests enjoy a full range of therapeutic activities from Ayurvedic and classic massages (with oils from trusted organic suppliers in Asia), to yoga by the infinity pool, sound healing and breathwork in the Piano Room, and meditation in a candlelit cave. In the evening, guests gather for enlightening satsangs around a roaring fire in the library.
Ayurveda on a Plate
Chef Asia Kostka and her Indian team prepare meals according to Ayurvedic principles using earthy, seasonal, local ingredients (everything comes from organic and permaculture farms within 25km or what’s needed from Indian organic suppliers) to nourish and restore. Breakfast could be seed-sprinkled porridge or mung bean pancakes, while the main meal is served at lunchtime, when the digestive fire is at its peak. Supper is a comforting, hearty soup and side of grains, and before bed guests receive a flask of warming ‘golden milk’ infused with herbs and spices like chamomile, cardamom and turmeric to aid sleep. Celebrated Michelin Star Chef Jan Hendrik* will be in residence again this spring, bringing his signature focus on wholesomeness, sustainability, and wellbeing to the borgo.
Retreat Packages and Accessibility
Retreats start from £1,850 per person in a double room for a 7-night stay. This includes Ayurvedic consultations, five private treatment sessions, daily group classes, nutritious meals, cosy retreat wear and a wellbeing gift to take home.
