indigoeight appointed UK Representatives for Vale de Moses Authentic Yoga Retreats Immersed in Nature
indigoeight is delighted to announce its appointment as UK representatives for Vale de Moses, a family-run yoga business in central Portugal. Their sole purpose is to encourage others to embrace a healthier lifestyle through a deeply caring community approach and full immersion in nature.
Located in the foothills of the Serra de Estrela mountains, one of the largest wild pine forests in Europe, Vale de Moses offers high quality yoga retreats in an exceptional environment. With authenticity at its heart, a traditional, abandoned farmhouse has been transformed into a home and business by hosts Andrew and Vonetta Winter. 10 years ago, they left the UK and moved with their two children to this remote area in search of a more energised and fulfilling lifestyle, which they have successfully shared with guests for the last 5 years.
Today, the result is a homely, nurturing and easy-going retreat which promises time out, healing and nourishment. The focus is on listening to the body rather than the mind to relieve stress, through the practice of yoga daily in a wooden and glass shala floating above herb gardens. Guests also explore the surrounding pine forests and benefit from the healing power of trees*, swim and mud bathe in rivers, breathe pure mountain air and indulge in deliciously fresh vegetarian food. Body therapies are a key part of the Vale de Moses experience with massages and acupuncture available daily. There is an invitation to enjoy a period of silence each morning and simply enjoy the sounds of nature.
Founder Andrew Winter says, “We’re seeing a growing need for safe spaces such as ours to help manage physical and mental wellbeing. The forest is a wonderful place to learn to meditate or deepen your practice. Our retreats allow you to enjoy the intimacy of your own presence without the daily noise and interruptions that we are accustomed to dealing with.”
Retreat weeks are suitable for all levels and run from March – October with a focus on yoga, massage, acupuncture and nutrition. Prices start from £710 per week in shared accommodation, excluding flights. Vale de Moses can be reached easily from either Lisbon or Porto airports.
2018 is the perfect time to experience Vale de Moses as it was recently endorsed as among the best yoga retreats in the world by National Geographic Traveller, the Guardian and Daily Telegraph. Furthermore, Portugal is one of Lonely Planet’s top ten countries for 2018 and was anointed Europe’s Leading Destination at the World Travel Awards. Airfares remain modest too, with new services from national carrier TAP Air Portugal launching from London City to Lisbon.

Notes to Editors:
*In relation to tree energy mentioned above:
Recent research has revealed the significant health benefits that come from being in nature, and specifically in forests. Forest bathing – essentially being in the presence of trees – is proven to improve sleep, increase energy levels, lower blood pressure, reduce stress, boost the immune system and improve overall feelings of wellbeing. Essential oils called phytoncide are emitted by wood, plants and some fruit and vegetables, to protect themselves from germs and insects. Inhaling these phytoncide helps to improve immune system function – so it’s not just a case of forest air feeling fresher and better, there’s science behind it too. Research sources include:
More background on the retreat programme:
YOGA – knowledgeable instructors teach a range of yoga styles. Energetic morning classes are inspired by Ashtanga, Vinyasa Flow and Dynamic Hatha Yoga, helping to prepare you for a day of healing therapies, sun-bathing and exploring. In the afternoon, classes comprise of Yin Yoga, focused asana exploration, playful partner or Acro Yoga and quiet contemplation. It’s the ideal retreat for both those starting their yoga journey as well as devotees.
SLEEP – restorative sleep is an essential part of a stay at Vale de Moses. Four Xisto stone houses have been respectfully restored in the old local Portuguese traditions using natural materials of clay, lime, wood and stone. Choose to stay in one of two shared (single sex) stone cottages, three private bedrooms in the farmhouse or six Soulpad belle tents in the forest.
SILENCE – It’s also the ideal place to enjoy the restorative sounds of silence. Eschewing human and city noise for the sounds of nature, guests spend until 11:00am each morning in a state of voluntary quiet, enabling them to simply hear and observe. The meditative sounds of animals, water and the wind through the trees, all add to the relaxing vibe of this special retreat. Some mornings, guests enjoy led meditation walks while blindfolded which helps to augment the other senses.
